Women Scientist

Maria Agnesi

Maria Agnesi was born may 16th, 1718 and died January 9, 1799 and she is known as the first women who wrote the first mathematics book by a woman that still survives and she was the first woman appointed as a mathematics professor at a university.  Maria Agnesi brought together ideas from many contemporary mathematical thinkers and made it easier by her ability to read in many languages and she integrated many of the ideas in a novel way that impressed the mathematicians and other scholars of her day.

I chose Maria Agnesi beacuse i think it is very interesting how she was the first women to make a mathematical book.  Also she could speak many languages so she could gather all the different mathamatical information and put it all together.  Many of the men scientist of this time were very impressed.  She wrote The Instituzioni Analitiche in two volumes and it covered arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry and calculu.
